This site shares all of the resources and guidelines that Normal Public Library uses to run a mentorship program that pairs youth with an adult mentor who has experience in technology.
Partners in Technology pairs children ages 10-14 years old with an adult mentor from the community with experience in a technology field or area of study. Partners meet at the library weekly for 1 hour sessions over the course of 8 weeks. Meeting times are chosen based on mentor and participant availability. During these sessions, partners explore coding, robotic, and circuitry/hardware concepts using a variety of free, open-source online and physical resources. The comprehensive program plan is valuable to library staff with and without computer science or computational thinking experience. Although the original intent of the program was to pair adult mentors and youth, the lessons could be adapted to be led by library staff as well.
